A stroke of luck

That is the expression I think of when it comes to how I got here, at Keyrus, in October 2018. It was, in many ways, a stroke of luck. Initially, I wasn't specifically looking for a role in data science - in fact, I barely knew the field existed. I wanted that role to be meaningful and I knew that, for me, it meant I would become a consultant, leveraging my master's degree in Business Engineering with a specialization in logistics and a background in Physics as well.

It was during my search for a consulting position that I stumbled upon the world of data science. As I read the job description, I realized it aligned perfectly with my interests and skills - perhaps even more so than my master's specialization. This discovery opened up a new path that I hadn't previously considered.

My encounter with Keyrus was purely by chance, but it turned out to be a revelation. On paper, there was a world of difference between Keyrus's mentality and that of the large consulting firms I initially targeted. The first contact with James from Keyrus's HR was fantastic and gave me a glimpse of the company's unique culture. Today, I can confidently say that choosing Keyrus was the best decision of my career, and I've never looked back. This experience taught me that sometimes, the best opportunities come unexpectedly.

First Mission: A Challenging Proof of Concept

My inaugural project at Keyrus was a proof of concept for a major client, involving massive datasets and the potential to create a predictive classification model with significant business value. From the outset, it was clear that while the potential impact was enormous, so were the challenges.

The primary hurdle lay in the data itself which was stored in a non-standard format, making it difficult to access and utilize. The project's feasibility was relying on our ability to read, decode, and automatically process this data without human intervention.

This challenge required extensive reverse engineering work. I threw myself into the task, leveraging my problem-solving skills and supported by my Keyrus colleagues. It was an opportunity to showcase my adaptability and innovative thinking, not just to Keyrus but also to the client.

Our efforts paid off. The successful proof of concept led to the client's decision to continue with a full-scale project - a major, multi-year engagement that continues to this day.

This initial project demonstrated what I've come to love about working at Keyrus: the opportunity to tackle complex problems, the support of skilled colleagues, and the chance to make a real impact on clients' businesses through innovative data solutions. This is still what I am doing today, on a daily basis.
